DIY: Cheap and Chic Closet Storage

Recently I moved and went from a walk in closet to a 4 foot closet with no shelves, just two rods… This isn’t my forever home, in fact it is temporary while we are building a house, so for now I wanted to come up with a cheap, inexpensive way to keep my closet a little more organized. Shelving (even from Ikea) was more than I wanted to spend since I probably wouldn’t use them once I move out. It had to be durable and big enough to hold my clothing. It also had to be stackable…

The solution?? Sterilite Plastic Office Crates!

These bad boys were just $3.50 a piece. I hated the dull black look of them. Made it feel cheap and masculine to me so with a little bit of love- I sprayed them.

You all know how much I love spray paint, but the amount of love I have for metallic spray paint is out of this world. I went for Rust-Oleum’s bright copper color from Walmart and it turned out WAY better than I thought— in fact, I will be using these even after I move out! Until then, they can keep my closet organized.

Total Cost:

Crates: $14

Spray Paint: $8

Total: $22
